Six months on

October's changes are already exposing gaps

The Employment Rights Act began its phased rollout in February 2026. October has now brought new union rights, longer tribunal claim deadlines, and tougher anti-harassment duties, on top of extended right-to-work checks now in effect for a wider group of workers. Busy manufacturing employers running multi-site, shift-based operations could easily have missed something or fallen behind.

This session is a practical sense check, not another rundown of what the Act says. In 60 minutes, Hilary will walk through the pitfalls we're actually seeing on the floor right now, and flag what's coming in 2027 so you can get ahead of it.

A sense check, not a lecture. You'll leave knowing exactly what to check, not just what the Act says.

The agenda

What's covered in 60 minutes

Five mistakes we're seeing on the floor right now, plus a working checklist to take away.

Where things stand in October

0:00

A quick reframe of why manufacturing carries more exposure to these changes than most sectors.

Mistake 1: Union rights and access

0:00

Not informing workers of their right to join a trade union, or leaving access arrangements undocumented.

Mistake 2: Anti-harassment duties

0:00

Still working to the old "reasonable steps" standard, and not covering harassment by third parties like contractors and visitors.

Mistake 3: Tribunal time limits

0:00

Treating the old three-month claim window as still accurate, when it's now six.

Mistake 4: Right-to-work checks

0:00

Not realising extended checks now apply to a wider group of workers under the Border Security Asylum and Immigration Act 2025.

Mistake 5: Not preparing for 2027

0:00

Leaving unfair dismissal reform, flexible working applications, and collective consultation changes until they're already in force.

Your checklist and next steps
